VoiceGenie and Convedia Partner to Deliver
Best-in-Class IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Platform Elements
for Delivering Enhanced Services

BOSTON, MA - Fall VON - September 19, 2005

VoiceGenieVoiceGenie Technologies Inc., the leader in VoiceXML, CCXML, and speech platforms, and Convedia Corporation, the leading supplier of VoIP media servers, today announced that they have joined forces to develop a best-in-class architectural model for the delivery of enhanced services in the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Architecture. With the VoiceGenie Media Controller acting as a Media Resource Function Controller (MRFC) element and the Convedia Media Server acting as a Media Resource Function Processor (MRFP) element, the combined solution delivers a best-in-class Media Resource Function (MRF) for 3G, IMS and Fixed Mobile Convergence deployments.

The VoiceGenie Media Controller is a software solution based completely on open-standards including SIP, VoiceXML, MRCP and CCXML. The VoiceGenie Media Controller acts as the MRFC, executing VoiceXML and CCXML applications by controlling leading MRFPs such as the Convedia Media Server, as well as other media resources such as Automated Speech Recognition (ASR) and Text-To-Speech (TTS) servers. VoiceGenie’s independently certified support for the full W3C VoiceXML 2.0 specification, as well as complete support for VoiceXML 2.1 and CCXML 1.0, allows applications to be standards-based, portable, and to take advantage of the latest advanced technology in speech. The flexibility offered by VoiceXML and CCXML allows for the MRF functionality to be leveraged by SIP-based application servers as part of a larger application, but also allows for standalone VoiceXML/CCXML-based services to be deployed on the MRF. Robust support for speech, including a standards-based integration via MRCP with all of the leading speech vendors, combined with MRCP proxy capabilities that enhance scalability and availability of speech resources, ensure that applications can go far beyond the simple touch-tone based interactions that are prevalent today. Finally, the resource management capabilities of the VoiceGenie MRFC allows for optimal allocation and usage of underlying MRFP resources, including cases where softswitches, session controllers, and application servers do not need the extended capabilities offered by VoiceXML and CCXML.

Convedia's IP media servers deliver an optimized Media Resource Function Processor (MRFP) to support scalable, carrier-class audio, video and multimedia processing for a broad range of enhanced services and applications. By delivering a multi-service, open standards media processing platform, Convedia enables fixed and mobile service providers to consolidate the media processing in their network onto a common network element resulting in lower capital and operational cost. In addition, the open and flexible nature of Convedia’s SIP controlled platform allows service providers to quickly prototype, deploy and scale new exciting services such as mobile video messaging, network gaming, and peer-to-peer voice and multimedia services. Convedia’s CMS-6000 and CMS-1000 media servers are deployed today in over 30 countries around the globe powering production voicemail, voice conferencing, prepaid/recharge, IP Centrex, ringback tone and a wide range of IVR/VRU applications.

“VoiceGenie’s Media Controller, combined with Convedia’s media processing servers, provides an optimal platform from which telecommunication service providers and large enterprise customers can deliver new services,” said Grant Henderson, Convedia's Executive Vice President of Marketing and Strategy, “VoiceGenie’s expertise in VoiceXML and CCXML coupled with Convedia’s market-leading MRFP offers service providers an ideal combination of carrier-class density and reliability with an open-standards model for developing new speech-enabled and multimedia applications."

“VoiceGenie and Convedia have partnered to deliver an MRF solution that provides the most effective means of delivering enhanced media processing and speech-enabled services,” said Frank Tersigni, VP of Marketing and Business Development at VoiceGenie Technologies. “This combined solution will enable broadband, wireline and wireless service providers to realize the benefits of VoiceXML and CCXML open-standard applications to deliver next generation speech enabled services to their subscriber base.”
