BARCELONA, Spain
– 3GSM Congress – February 13, 2006
Standards-based multi-protocol support is an important
requirement for service providers wanting to maximize
the value and versatility of their investment in IP media
processing platforms. Vendors of softswitch and Calling
State Control Function (CSCF) equipment often prefer to
control IP media servers using device control protocols
like H.248 or MGCP, the same protocols they already use
for media gateway control. However, Application Server
(AS) vendors often prefer the feature-rich flexibility
of using SIP and XML-based scripting languages. Convedia’s
control interface options allow Convedia media servers
to support a complete range of softswitch, CSCF, and application
service requirements, resulting in a flexible platform
for supporting a broad range of IP audio and video services
being offered by fixed and mobile IMS network operators
around the globe.
“Real-world deployments of service delivery IP infrastructure
often consist of a mix of call agents and application
servers using various protocols for controlling media
processing resources in the network,” noted Ronald
Gruia, Program Leader, Emerging Communications with Frost
& Sullivan. “Therefore, having the flexibility
of using a wide range of standards-based control protocols
is key for today’s fixed and mobile operators. By
offering extensive IP media processing features that deliver
that choice and flexibility, Convedia’s media servers
become extremely attractive for any carriers looking to
maximize the utilization and ROI of their IP media server
investment in both pre-IMS and IMS network deployments.”
Convedia’s H.248 interface completes a set of features
specifically targeted towards 3G mobile networks and IMS
standards. Convedia’s H.248 interface meets the
Mp interface specifications for the Media Resource Function
Processor (MRFP) in the 3GPP IMS architecture, along with
H.248 packages defined by the ETSI TISPAN project. Convedia
also supports the AMR wireless voice codec, a common audio
codec used in 3G mobile phone networks. And for service
providers looking to add video services to their IMS service
offerings, Convedia media servers support H.263 video
codec processing features, suitable for scalable IMS-compliant
video services including videomail, video conferencing,
video ringback tones, and video IVR services.
“Convedia is fully committed to providing feature-rich
IMS-compliant media processing solutions for service providers
and application developers,” said Grant Henderson,
Convedia's Executive Vice President of Marketing and Strategy.
“Convedia’s extensive audio and video media
processing features, accessed and controlled through the
industry’s broadest range of control interface options,
makes Convedia Media Servers the industry’s most
versatile media processing platform for existing VoIP
and emerging IMS service deployments.”
Convedia is the recognized market leader in IP Media Servers
that provide the MRFP in 3G/IMS packet networks. Convedia
media servers deliver the MRFP media processing essential
for a broad range of converged IMS services including
push-to-talk, ringback tones, mobile video services, unified
messaging, speech controlled services, and multimedia
conferencing. Mobile application developers can integrate
Convedia’s broad MRFP capabilities into their IMS
solutions using SIP, H.248, XML or other standards-based
control protocols, resulting in accelerated feature support
and time-to-market. Additional benefits for mobile network
operators include cost savings, multi-service support,
improved reliability, and industry-leading scalability.
Convedia is the leading supplier
of VoIP and IMS media servers, which enable telecommunication
service providers to reduce service delivery costs and
increase revenues through new approaches to enhanced services.
Since pioneering the IP media server market in early 2000,
Convedia has deployed its multi-service media processing
platforms and technology with over 175 customers worldwide,
including over 25 of world’s top 50 carriers. Convedia’s
award-winning family of products includes the CMS-6000
Media Server, a carrier-class media server capable of
scaling to 18,000 ports per shelf, and the CMS-1000 Media
Server, a low-cost, entry-level media server. Convedia
is a privately held company headquartered in Vancouver,
Canada, with regional offices in Asia, the United States,
and Europe. For additional information about Convedia,
