VANCOUVER, Canada – February 22,
2006
Convedia Corporation today announced that Peter Briscoe,
Convedia’s President and CEO, has been named to
the board of directors of the recently formed IMS Forum.
Convedia, along with other founding members and industry
participants, will work together in the IMS forum to accelerate
the adoption of IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) by providing
an environment for the discussion and resolution of real-world
implementation issues related to open multi-vendor IMS
implementations.
IMS Forum members, comprised of service providers, equipment
vendors, application providers, system integrators and
government agencies will be working together to develop
cost-effective technical frameworks for converged IP services
delivered over wireline, cable, 3G, WiFi and WiMAX networks.
The IMS Forum will leverage its heritage and build upon
the existing foundation created by its predecessors: the
International Packet Communications Consortium (IPCC),
the International Softswitch Consortium (ISC) and the
IP Multimedia Carrier Coalition.
“IMS will enable the delivery of traditional voice
and new multimedia services at lower costs and with greater
flexibility than ever before,” said Michael Khalilian,
chairman and president, IMS Forum. “Convedia has
a long history of industry leadership in delivering products
which fully embrace the fundamental principles of the
IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), namely open, standards-based
IP platforms for providing telecommunication services
to customers regardless of how, where and when they want
to access them. I am very pleased to recognize and welcome
Convedia as one of the founding members of the IMS Forum,
and to have Peter Briscoe playing such a key role in the
IMS Forum.”
“True IMS deployments will consist of a multi-vendor
service delivery platform connected seamlessly together
via well defined standards,” noted Peter Briscoe,
Convedia's President and CEO. “Through the cooperation
of many industry stakeholders in the IMS Forum, today’s
leading service providers and solution vendors are taking
an important step forward in addressing real-world IMS
implementation issues faced by vendors and services providers
alike around the globe.”
Convedia is the recognized market leader in IP Media Servers
that provide the MRFP in 3G/IMS packet networks. Convedia
media servers deliver the MRFP media processing essential
for a broad range of converged IMS services including
push-to-talk, ringback tones, mobile video services, unified
messaging, speech controlled services, and multimedia
conferencing. Mobile application developers can integrate
Convedia’s broad MRFP capabilities into their IMS
solutions using SIP, H.248, XML or other standards-based
control protocols, resulting in accelerated feature support
and time-to-market. Additional benefits for mobile network
operators include cost savings, multi-service support,
improved reliability, and industry-leading scalability.
The IMS FORUM is a global, non-profit industry association
devoted to interoperable IMS services and solutions. The
mission of the Forum is to accelerate the adoption of
IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) by providing an environment
for discussion and resolution of real-world implementation
issues relating to interoperability, best practices, and
standards-based architectures in the application layer.
In addition, the Forum will provide consultancy to the
industry, service providers, and vendors on best practices
and approaches for IMS rollouts and interconnectivity.
