Convedia introduces the industry's most powerful and scalable Softswitch compliant Media Server

Atlanta, GA - September 12, 2000 VON Fall 2000 - Convedia Corporation, a leading provider of enhanced service processing platforms for next generation packet networks, today introduced the Convedia CMS-6000 Media Server, the industry's most powerful and scalable media processing platform.

Scaling up to 18,000 ports in a single shelf, the CMS-6000 is a carrier-class Internet and IP Telephony media processor used in a broad range of traditional and emerging enhanced services delivered over IP and ATM networks. Designed specifically for next generation packet networks, the CMS-6000 provides service providers a modular platform for delivering media-intensive, real-time enhanced services such as voice and video conferencing, speech based services including pre-paid and calling card services, and traditional IVR services. Using the latest DSPs and Convedia's optimized media and packet processing technologies, the CMS-6000 delivers high performance enhanced services in an affordable and a compact footprint.

"The enhanced services market will be a key driver of IP telephony and converged solutions going forward" said Tom Valovic, Research Manager of IP Telephony at IDC. "Under the emerging softswitch model, media servers will play an important role in bringing those services to market quickly and cost-effectively"

The CMS-6000 feature highlights include:
  • A signaling protocol agnostic approach which allows the CMS-6000 to be deployed in H.323 and SIP based networks.
  • An extensive suite of optimized service building blocks including DTMF, conferencing, text-to-speech, speech recognition and video, which are required for current and emerging enhanced services.
  • A carrier class, modular architecture with high performance IP and ATM interfaces designed for maximum availability and reliability.
  • Support for open control interfaces such as MGCP and MEGACO/H.248 facilitating seamless integration with softswitches and application servers.
"The convergence of telecommunications and the Internet is driving an explosion of enhanced services which are more friendly, personalized and compelling than traditional PSTN based services" said Peter Briscoe, President and CEO of Convedia. "Convedia's CMS-6000 Media Server helps service providers control the management and deployment costs of these enhanced services by packaging market leading media processing features into a high density platform capable of delivering multiple applications and scaling easily and elegantly as service demand grows."

Convedia is demonstrating the CMS-6000 Media Server this week at the Pulver Voice on the Net conference in Atlanta and will begin commercial shipments later this year.
