NexTone and Convedia partner to create intelligent and personalized services for next-generation networks. Convedia's CMS-6000 Media Server to Interoperate with Nextone's Application Switch for Softswitch Based Networks. ROCKVILLE, MD - January 30, 2001 - NexTone Communications, www.nextone.com, a provider of advanced network systems that power the Virtual Central Office, today announced it has partnered with Convedia Corporation, the leading supplier of next generation, softswitch compliant media servers, to build application infrastructure for next generation networks. Convedia joined NexTone's All for ONE partnership program to ensure interoperability between Convedia's CMS-6000 Media Server and the NexTone Application Switch. "In softswitch based networks, NexTone's partnership with Convedia enables breakthrough applications to be deployed based on subscriber personalization and mobility," said Larry Beerman, vice president of business development, NexTone Communications. "Together, NexTone and Convedia give service providers the building blocks needed to create and quickly deploy unique applications that will attract and retain customers." The NexTone iServer Architecture consists of the NexTone Application Switch and a family of Application Servers. The NexTone Application Switch is a platform that provides the policy-based call routing and signaling interworking (SIP, H.323) needed to deploy applications in an on-net IP environment while also interoperating with softswitch and media gateway platforms for off-net calls to and from the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The family of NexTone Application Servers, including the recently announced NexTone Presence Server, enables breakthrough applications that support the mobile behavior of today's users unlike anything that is currently available on circuit switch networks. NexTone's partnership with Convedia strengthens their ability to deliver new application servers for the iServer Architecture. "Convedia is pleased to partner with NexTone to rapidly deliver innovative, differentiated enhanced services to the voice over packet market," said Grant Henderson, vice president of product management and marketing at Convedia. "This partnership further demonstrates Convedia's commitment to leading the market in open, standards compliant media processing platforms for next generation enhanced applications and services." Convedia's CMS-6000 Media Server is the industry's first carrier-class Voice-over-IP enhanced service media processor and can be used in a broad range of traditional and emerging enhanced services delivered over xDSL, Cable, Fiber, Wireless and traditional networks. Designed specifically for next generation packet networks, the CMS-6000 gives service providers a modular, softswitch compliant platform for delivering media-intensive, real-time enhanced services such as multimedia conferencing, speech processing, interactive voice response (IVR), unified messaging, and announcement services. Delivering up to 18,000 ports in a single shelf, Convedia's CMS-6000 offers unparalleled scalability, performance and reliability.
