Convedia offers free tools that allow third-party software developers and service providers to accelerate the development of media rich telecommunication applications. Convedias Media Server Emulator and Media Server Controller slash months off media server integration efforts. VANCOUVER, Canada. Mar. 19, 2001 - Convedia Corporation, the leading provider of softswitch media servers, today introduced two software tools designed to allow telecommunication application developers to speed the development and introduction of media rich, packet based voice applications and services. The new tools, known as the Media Server Emulator (MSE) and Media Server Controller (MSC) are being made available free of charge to qualified developers. "Right from its inception, Convedia made a strategic decision to focus all its resources and energy on developing market leading, carrier class media processing hardware for the voice over packet markets" said Mark Winther, Group Vice President - Telecommunications Research at IDC. "As such, partnering with softswitch and application server developers is a fundamental element of their business strategy. These new developer tools demonstrate Convedias commitment to helping their customers and partners accelerate time to market for enhanced applications and services". The Media Server Emulator (MSE) provides software-based emulation of Convedias CMS-6000 Media Server, a carrier class media processor that is used in a broad range of telecommunication applications and services. Both the MSE and CMS-6000 offer developers an open standards, MGCP control interface which can be used to access high performance, scalable conferencing, announcement, transcoding, IVR and ASR/TTS service building blocks offered by Convedias CMS-6000 Media Server. "The Media Server Emulator and CMS-6000 Media Server are indistinguishable from a control interface perspective" said Grant Henderson, Vice President Product Management and Marketing at Convedia. "This tool allows Convedias partners to quickly and easily verify product interoperability with our CMS-6000 Media Server and facilitates parallel development of new features with our partners, reducing time to market and accelerating feature velocity". The second new tool, known as the Media Server Controller (MSC), is designed for developers who prefer to control the CMS-6000 through a high level C++ interface. The MSC provides an easy to use Application Programming Interface (API) and a set of linkable libraries that can be included and distributed with third party application servers and softswitches. "NexTone and Convedia share a vision that allows a broader vendor community to participate in creating applications for the next generation network " said Dan Dearing, Vice President of Marketing, Nextone Communications. "By leveraging the Convedia MSC and MSE and the NexTone iServer architecture, software vendors can focus on the end-user application and be insulated from the details of managing network connections and media resources. As a result, our partners are able to create new media server based applications in a matter of weeks rather than months." The Media Server Emulator and Media Server Controller execute on Sun Solaris workstations and have been available free of charge to qualified developers since early January. About Convedia Convedia Corporation is the leading supplier of next-generation, softswitch-compliant media servers which enable communication service providers to rapidly deliver innovative and differentiated voice and video services over Internet Protocol networks.
