Pactolus and Convedia first to demonstrate component, carrier-class, open IP solution for building enhanced services.

Spring VoN provides venue for Conference calling application using Pactolus RapidFLEX Application Server and Convedia CMS-6000 Media Server.

PHOENIX, AZ. March 22, 2001 - Pactolus Communication Software, Inc., the leading provider of XML-based enhanced services solutions for SIP-enabled networks, and Convedia Corporation, the leading supplier of softswitch compliant media servers, announced today they are demonstrating the interoperability of the Pactolus RapidFLEX™ Application Server and Convedia CMS-6000 at the Spring VoN Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. The demonstration is the first public demonstration of a scalable, carrier-class Media Server connected to an Application Server developed by an independent software vendor. The conferencing application was built using the Pactolus RapidFLEX Service Creation Environment, and was easily created and modified to support IP phone conference calls using Pingtel phones and the CMS-6000’s audio bridging building block controlled by MGCP.

"The first step in delivering next-generation enhanced services solutions into softswitch networks has been to separate transport and processing of voice from call control and the application layer," said Kenneth Osowski, vice president of marketing and product management at Pactolus. "The next significant step we have taken here is to show that by using well defined VoIP protocol interfaces, Application Servers can easily take advantage of scalable media resources for voice prompts, IVR, and audio bridging to build a high-end enhanced services solution."

"The industry has been talking for a while about the promise of a carrier-class, component based approach to enhanced services," said Grant Henderson, vice president of product management and marketing at Convedia. "This demonstration proves that it is now possible for service providers to pick best-of-breed components as they choose network elements that enable enhanced services in their SIP-enabled softswitch networks."
