VANCOUVER, Canada April 1, 2002 - Convedia Corporation
today introduced the Convedia CMS-1000 Media Server, the industrys
first low cost entry-level media server that reduces CAPEX and OPEX costs
by consolidating media processing in a multi-service device. Ideally suited
for the hosted applications, data center and Fortune 500 packet voice
markets and applications, the CMS-1000 offers service providers, large
enterprise customers and application developers a feature rich, high performance
media server in an affordable, ultra-slim 1 RU package.
"Media servers such as those offered by Convedia are becoming strategically
important to wireless, wireline and cable network operators who want to
reduce the cost of delivering enhanced voice services, accelerate new
service introduction and increase service differentiation" said Tom Jenkins,
Vice President of Telechoice, Inc. "With the introduction of the CMS-1000,
Convedia is positioned as the only media server supplier to currently
provide both the high-density carrier-class media servers required by
IXCs, ILECs and PTTs as well as lower profile, lower density media servers
required by small carriers, hosted application service providers, and
large enterprise customers
Convedias CMS-1000 media server joins the award winning CMS-6000
in reducing service delivery costs and increasing revenues through new
approaches to enhanced services. The family of media server products consolidate
the functions of traditional announcement servers, interactive voice response
(IVR/VRU) units, conference bridges, messaging platforms and speech platforms
into a single multi-service, open standards compliant solution for network
and enhanced services media processing.
"Convedia continues our tradition of market leadership by being the first
vendor to recognize and address the need for affordable, low density media
servers," said Peter Briscoe, President and CEO of Convedia. "The CMS-1000
gives Convedias customers and solution partners all the benefits
of our carrier-class, highly scalable CMS-6000 media server in a small
form factor and attractive entry price. Together the CMS-1000 and CMS-6000
are an unbeatable combination."
Convedias CMS-1000 is based on the same high performance hardware
and software architecture as Convedias CMS-6000 Media Server, yet
measures only 1.75" (1 RU) in height. The CMS-1000 scales from 100 to
300 ports and is available in redundant 120/240 VAC as well as redundant
48VDC power options. The CMS-1000 and CMS-6000 share a common feature
set including MGCP and SIP protocol support allowing either media server
to seamlessly integrate with the broad set of solutions available from
Convedias softswitch and application server partners.
"The CMS-1000 delivers new value to Convedias customers and solution
partners," said Grant Henderson, Executive Vice President of Marketing
and Strategy at Convedia. "Service providers can deploy smaller CMS-1000
media servers at the edge of their network or opt for a more centralized
deployment model using the CMS-6000. Third party application developers
no longer need to develop and support low density Compact PCI based media
servers and can partner with Convedia as the industries only single source
supplier of entry level and ultra scalable media processing platforms."
Convedias CMS-1000 will be available in the third quarter of 2002.
Convedia will demonstrate their family of media server products at Spring
VON, in Seattle WA, April 8-11 booth #100.
