Convedia’s new CMS-1000 Media Server named Telecommunications Magazine’s Product of the Month

Low-cost, Entry-level Media Server Reduces CAPEX and OPEX Costs for Service Providers

Convedia Corporation today announced that the Convedia CMS-1000 Media Server has been named Product of the Month by Telecommunications Magazine. The regular feature profiles leading-edge products within the service-provider market. The CMS-1000 is the industry’s first low-cost, entry-level media server specifically designed for next generation voice networks. Media servers lower both CAPEX and OPEX costs by consolidating media processing in a shared, multi-service device and help accelerate the creation and deployment of high margin, differentiated services.

"We see hundreds of new products every month but highlight the one solution that stands to most positively impact the telecommunications industry," said Sean Buckley, staff editor with Telecommunications Magazine. "Convedia’s CMS-1000 is compelling because it is the first turnkey solution designed specifically for service providers who require media servers with the functionality of a carrier-grade system but with a smaller footprint and a lower entry cost."

The CMS-1000 is a feature-rich, high-performance media server in an affordable, single-rack-unit package. It is ideally suited for service providers such as independent operating companies (IOCs), providers of hosted-application services and Fortune 500 companies deploying packet-voice applications. Like Convedia’s award-winning CMS-6000 Media Server that is designed for network-core deployment by large carriers, the CMS-1000 reduces service-delivery costs and increases revenues through new approaches to enhanced services. Convedia’s scalable family of media server products consolidates the functions of traditional announcement servers, interactive voice response (IVR/VRU) units, conference bridges, messaging platforms and speech platforms into a single, multi-service, standards-compliant platform.

This honor from Telecommunications Magazine is a significant validation of the need for lower density turnkey media servers which can be deployed at the network edge," said Peter Briscoe, president and chief executive officer of Convedia. "With our release of the CMS-1000, Convedia became the only supplier offering both the high-density media servers required by large carriers and the lower-density solutions that small carriers, providers of hosted applications and large enterprise customers need."

About the CMS-1000 Media Server

The CMS-1000 scales from 100 to 300 ports and is available in redundant 120/240 VAC, as well as redundant -48VDC power options. Support for Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) ensures seamless integration of the CMS-1000 with the broad set of solutions available from Convedia’s softswitch and application server partners. Convedia’s CMS-1000 is based on the same hardware and software architecture and delivers the same carrier-grade features as Convedia’s award-winning CMS-6000, yet measures only 1.75 inches in height. Convedia’s CMS-1000 will be available in the third quarter of 2002.
