Convedia and Convergent Networks Join the Occam Packet Access Network (OPAN) Alliance

Companies’ Solutions Bring Additional Enhanced Voice Services and Packet-based Switching System Offerings to OPAN Portfolio.

Santa Babara, CA - September 9, 2002 - Occam Networks Inc. (OTCBB: OCCM), a supplier of innovative Ethernet and IP-based loop carrier equipment to telecommunications companies worldwide, today announced that Convedia, a leading supplier of next-generation, softswitch compliant media servers, and Convergent Networks, a leading provider of broadband voice infrastructure solutions, have joined the Occam Packet Access Network (OPAN) alliance. The OPAN alliance is the telecommunications industry's first multi-company partnership program focused exclusively on delivering comprehensive, interoperable and easily supported next-generation local loop solutions that minimize deployment, operational and maintenance costs for service providers.

"The revenue-generating potential of next-gen voice services is enormous, and we think OPAN is creating a great way for service providers to effectively build a complete local loop solution that can deliver these services," said Grant Henderson, executive VP of marketing and strategy at Convedia. "Our CMS-6000 and CMS-1000 Media Servers nicely complement solutions from Occam Networks and Convergent Networks to facilitate delivery of enhanced voice and video services over packet networks."

Convedia and Occam are currently participating in a joint trial with an independent telephone company on the East coast.

"We look forward to working with companies like Convedia and Occam to develop the differentiated flexible voice services carriers are looking for," said Carl Baptiste, managing director of product management at Convergent Networks. "OPAN gives us the opportunity to work with companies focused on building solutions that take advantage of the revenue generating opportunities that come with the transition to next-generation IP packet-based networking." "With the budget cut backs we have seen at carriers, vendor cooperation on interoperability testing is crucial for the deployment of new technologies," said Russ Sharer, vice president of marketing at Occam Networks. "OPAN provides this type of critical forum for suppliers to craft solutions for revenue hungry telcos.

"Companies participating in the OPAN Alliance program ensure that their products are fully interoperable with Occam’s Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) system and work together as a team to develop business cases that demonstrate the economic benefits of building next-gen local loops. In addition, members of OPAN complete joint customer trials and roll out comprehensive local loop solutions. OPAN members also cross-train on each other’s platforms, facilitating support for solutions delivered to service providers through the alliance. Members of the alliance include Sonus Networks, Nuera Communications Inc., Syndeo Corp., Convergent Networks and Convedia.
