Convedia delivers industry’s first redundant IP Media Servers

CMS-6000 offers true carrier class functionality with no single point of failure.

San Jose, California, April 3, 2003 - VON Spring 2003 - Convedia Corporation, a leading provider of open, standards-based media processing platforms today announced that it has added support for card level redundancy to its award winning CMS-6000 Media Server. With the introduction of this key feature, service providers are able to, for the first time, deploy IP Media Servers in their network that automatically detect and recover from hardware failures without impacting calls that are in progress.

"In our research, service providers, time and again, rate product reliability as the top manufacturer selection criterion", said Kevin Mitchell, Infonetics Research’s Directing Analyst - Service Provider Networks and Next Gen Voice. "Hardware redundancy is an essential element of delivering reliable products as service providers need to both meet customer SLAs as well as perform live, in-service software upgrades. Convedia has demonstrated a commitment to delivering what their customers desire by bringing card level redundancy to the media server market."

Convedia’s CMS-6000 Media Server is a field hardened platform, which has been deployed commercially around the world, and offers a rich set of carrier class features today including:

  • 19" rackmountable NEBS Level 3 compliant chassis
  • 14 slot modular platform with evergreen design
  • Redundant, self-healing packet switched backplane
  • 1+1 control card redundancy
  • Redundant -48VDC power inputs
  • Redundant network interfaces
  • Redundant variable speed self monitoring fans
  • Redundant Building Integrated Timing Supply (BITS) interfaces
  • Hot swappable components
  • Form C dry contacts for connection to CO alarm systems
  • Rich web based embedded element manager
  • Full SNMP support for management and provisioning
  • In-service software and hardware upgrades
  • Ability to fully partition management, signaling and bearer traffic
  • Compact and efficient design—up to 18,000 ports in a 13 RU shelf
  • CLEI codes

"Our CMS-6000 Media Server was designed from the ground up to meet and exceed the reliability requirements of the world’s most discerning telecommunication service providers," said Grant Henderson, Convedia’s Executive Vice President of Marketing and Strategy. "With the addition of card level redundancy to a long list of reliability and redundancy features, Convedia has once again demonstrated real industry leadership in the development of carrier class IP Media Servers."

Convedia is demonstrating its family of Media Server products this week at the Pulver Voice on the Net conference in San Jose. Convedia’s redundancy feature will be commercially available at the end of April.
