Convedia Media Servers Honored with Internet Telephony® Magazine
Product of the Year Award

Convedia Recognized for Innovation and Leadership
in SIP-based Media Server Control Protocols

2003 Product of the Year Award from Internet Telephony MagazineVANCOUVER, Canada – January 7, 2004 - Convedia® Corporation, the leading supplier of carrier-class IP media processing platforms, announced today its IP Media Servers have received a 2003 Product of the Year Award from Internet Telephony™ Magazine. As a recipient of this prestigious award, Convedia was recognized for their demonstrated product innovation and market leadership in next generation networking technology. Convedia’s Media Servers have been recognized with 9 industry awards since their introduction in September 2000 including Internet Telephony’s 2001 Product of the Year Award, Internet Telephony’s 2003 TMC Labs Innovation award and Internet Telephony’s 2003 Product of the Year Award.

"Convedia’s CMS-6000 and CMS-1000 Media Servers continue to show strong leadership in the carrier class media server segment of the IP telephony industry," said Rich Tehrani, president of TMC and group editor-in-chief of Internet Telephony Magazine. "Convedia was one of the first to market in this product category, and continues to build their market dominance with new innovative features and announced deployments. We are proud to recognize Convedia’s hard work and industry contributions with a Product of the Year Award for 2003."

Convedia has sold over 180 media servers to customers worldwide and is working closely with leading service providers and Convedia’s application server and softswitch partners in over 30 additional evaluations and trials. Convedia’s carrier-class CMS-6000 Media Server and entry-level CMS-1000 Media Server reduce capital and ongoing operational costs by consolidating the functions of traditional announcement servers, interactive voice response units (IVR/VRU), conference bridges, messaging equipment, and speech platforms onto a single shared media processing platform. Application servers or softswitches can control Convedia’s extensive media processing features through open control protocols such as SIP, VoiceXML, MGCP and PacketCable NCS.

As part of its commitment to industry leadership and open standards, Convedia authored and released two innovative Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Internet Drafts in 2003 that together define a powerful and extensible SIP-based control interface for IP media servers:

  • Media Sessions Markup Language (MSML), and
  • Media Objects Markup Language (MOML).

MSML and MOML allow media servers to support functionality on SIP that previously could only be accomplished with protocols like MGCP and MEGAC0/H.248, including advanced conferencing (also known as business, moderated, or event conferencing), unscripted IVR and video services. The MSML/MOML interface is a significant step forward in the evolution of SIP media servers, and is being widely adopted by Convedia's leading application partners and next generation customers.

"We are honored to receive this prestigious award. The Internet Telephony 2003 Product of the Year Award is significant because it underscores our commitment to open standards such as SIP/MSML/MOML and clearly affirms our product and technology leadership," said Grant Henderson, Convedia’s Executive Vice President of Marketing and Strategy. "This is the third time TMC’s Internet Telephony Magazine has recognized Convedia’s innovation and excellence in the IP Media Server market, and clearly demonstrates we continue to design, build, and bring to market high quality products on a consistent basis."
