VANCOUVER, Canada — June 21, 2004
Convedia®
Corporation, the leading provider of IP media processing platforms, today
announced that Genesys Conferencing, a global leader in multimedia conferencing
services, has selected and deployed Convedia’s CMS-6000 Media Server
in its flagship Genesys Meeting Center product offering. Genesys Meeting
Center offers Web, voice and desktop video conferencing in one integrated
service that is available on demand. Simple point-and-click commands allow
moderators to deliver PowerPoint presentations, share and edit any document
or application in real time and record meetings for playback later.
Founded in 1986, Genesys serves over 18,000 customers
in 21 countries worldwide, including over 200 of the Global 500 companies.
Widely acknowledged as a technology innovator and industry leader, Genesys
pioneered fully automated conferencing in 1989 and was the first to empower
customers with conference management tools via the introduction of its
Multiconference Manager software in 1997. Genesys has grown to over 1,000
employees through a series of strategic acquisitions and delivered over
1.3 billion conferencing minutes in 2003.
Jim Huzell, Chief Operating Officer of Genesys Conferencing,
noted, “There were a number of considerations internally when we
first began working with Convedia two years ago. Could Voice over IP really
be capable of meeting our stringent voice-quality requirements? Our experience
with Convedia’s media servers has clearly demonstrated that they
exceed our expectations. Convedia will work with us in the future to improve
service reliability, reduce costs and help Genesys to create an increasingly
differentiated service offering. Convedia has become a strategic supplier
to Genesys because the company’s products and technology are clearly
head-and-shoulders above those of the competition.”
Convedia’s CMS-6000 Media Servers help Genesys
address three of the most pressing issues facing service providers in
today’s increasingly competitive conferencing marketplace:
- Improve Profit Margins – Convedia’s
media servers dramatically reduce costs and improve profitability by
consolidating up to four legacy conference bridging platforms into a
single, dynamically reprogrammable media processing platform capable
of concurrently supporting reservationless, event and video conferencing
services.
- Increase Service Differentiation
– Convedia’s use of open, standards based interfaces enables
increased service differentiation and accelerated new feature introduction,
which help service providers retain existing customers and attract new
ones. The use of open interfaces allows service providers to overcome
vendor lock-in that has historically resulted in inflated hardware costs
and lengthy delays for customized features.
- Elegant Migration from PSTN to VoIP
– Convedia’s media servers provide transport agnostic bridging
capabilities that are equally at home servicing the conferencing needs
of TDM subscribers as they are servicing the needs of native IP devices.
This offers Genesys’ customers seamless evolution to Voice over
IP while ensuring a common, feature rich experience regardless of how
the callers reach the service platform.
“This is a significant announcement for the conferencing
services industry in that it provides concrete evidence of an undeniable
trend we identified two years ago, namely the impending shift to IP conferencing
services and the fundamental importance IP Media Servers will have in
making this shift possible,” said Marc Beattie, Senior Partner,
Wainhouse Research. “Any organization that is considering or has
deployed VoIP should be mindful that IP-based collaboration and conferencing
services will extend the benefits of their VoIP architecture – this
is a relationship to put on your radar screen.”
Convedia’s carrier-class CMS-6000 Media Server
and entry-level CMS-1000 Media Server reduce capital and ongoing operational
costs by consolidating the functions of traditional announcement and recording
servers, interactive voice response units (IVR/VRU), audio/video conference
bridges, voice mail servers, and speech platforms onto a single shared
media processing platform. Convedia’s media servers have been deployed
globally by leading wireline and wireless carriers and enhanced service
providers.
“We are extremely pleased to be chosen as Genesys’ platform
for deploying Voice over IP conferencing services,” said Peter Briscoe,
president and CEO of Convedia. “Their broad customer base can benefit
from these new capabilities today, both in cost savings and in new productivity-enhancing
features. Genesys is an example of the type of visionary service provider
who is taking advantage of IP media server technology to extend and cost-reduce
core TDM services while paving the way for seamless migration to IP services.”
