Videomail services add the personalization
of video to traditional voicemail functionality. With
the forecasted growth in 3G networks and video telephony,
videomail allows broadband and 3G users guaranteed completion
of their video calls—even when the called party
is busy, outside of 3G coverage, or unavailable. When
a call is diverted to the videomail service, the caller
can be greeted by a personal video clip, a “celebrity”
video message, or a talking cartoon character. This level
of personalization appeals to the growing teenage segment
of the mobile subscriber base, as we’ve seen with
the popularity of other personalization services such
as ringtones, ringback tones, wallpapers, icons, and IM
services. The branding and personalization possibilities
around videomail services have industry experts predicting
rapid growth and ongoing improvement in the ARPU generated
from 3G mobile subscribers.
Convedia Media Servers deliver a Multimedia
Resource Function Processor (MRFP) compliant with the
IMS architecture, and optimized for carrier-class video
telephony applications. Videomail application servers
in the network can control the Convedia Media Server to
stream pre-recorded greeting content to incoming video
callers, record and store the subsequent video messages
in a content storage device. The intended recipients can
then later retrieve and playback the video message. Convedia’s
support for VoiceXML scripts allows the application to
specify rich IVR control dialogs for the telephony interface
of a videomail application.
Convedia's media processing features
